Accessibility, checked.
I AM aims for WCAG 2.2 at level AA. Here is how that is checked, what you can change, and what is not good enough yet.
What you can change.
In Settings, and they apply right away:
- Text size: standard, large or larger.
- Motion: follow your device, full, or reduced.
- Quiet mode, which stills motion and sound at once.
- Sound, off unless you turn it on. It never carries meaning on its own.
- The game layer, with plain versions that teach the same thing.
Every activity works by typing, by dictating with your own tool, or by talking it through with Ryan. Nothing depends on color, sound, animation, dragging or a timer, and every picture has words that describe it.
How it is checked.
Before each release, an automated check runs on the pages and looks at:
- Automated rules from axe-core for WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 at levels A and AA, on every page.
- Every page at phone width (390 pixels) and desktop width (1280 pixels).
- Controls at least 24 pixels in each direction; the house rule is 44.
- No sideways scrolling, and no text clipped by its container.
- The copy rules, read from what the page actually shows.
Automated checks find some problems, not all of them. The gaps we know about are listed below.
Known gaps.
- No specialist has audited I AM, and nobody who relies on a screen reader or other assistive technology has tested it yet.
- Recording cannot transcribe. After you record, you type or dictate what you said.
- Uploading slides or documents is not connected yet.
- Ryan’s teaching clips are not recorded yet. Their full words are always on the page.
Ask for help.
If something gets in your way, write to editor@ailately.com. Say which page you were on and what happened.
You can also do any activity live with Ryan, by conversation. See Support for more ways to get help.
